Role Summary

Roberts Communities is a privately held, founder-led developer and operator of manufactured home and RV communities across the United States. This thriving multifamily property management company stands as a leader in the industry and is at a critical stage of operational scale and sophistication, poised for significant growth.

The founder and CEO is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as his strategic right-hand and join the executive team. This high-impact role involves owning day-to-day operations while leading a cultural transformation toward higher accountability, structure, and execution across all departments. The position requires hands-on leadership, working closely with the CFO and VP of RV Operations, and directly influencing the performance of all assets across the company’s national portfolio.

The ideal COO will be a collaborative and adaptable strategic leader with a demonstrated track record in scaling businesses, managing fast-paced environments, and building organizational structure during periods of significant growth. This leader will be capable of working closely with the CEO to implement strategic initiatives swiftly and effectively, streamlining operations, standardizing processes, improving company-wide communication, and fostering an open and communicative work environment aligned with the company’s overall growth strategy.

This role will be based out of the Roberts Communities’ corporate office at 16427 N Scottsdale Rd # 400, Scottsdale, AZ 85254, with an expectation of 30-50% domestic travel.

Operational Standardization and Excellence

Implement standardized processes across all departments to achieve operational stability, improve efficiency, and establish clear accountability measures that enhance overall organizational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of current operational processes and design standardized procedures that enhance interdepartmental efficiency and communication.
  • Establish clear KPIs and operating rhythms for department leaders and area managers while fostering a culture of follow-through, ownership, and clear commitments.
  • Create and implement accountability systems for direct reports, including regular performance reviews, goal-setting sessions, and performance tracking mechanisms.
  • Take full ownership of day-to-day operations to free the CEO from operational responsibilities, enabling focused attention on growth initiatives and strategic deal-making.
  • Establish clear communication channels and protocols to improve interdepartmental collaboration and information flow.
  • Execute approved operational changes with minimal disruption to ongoing operations, monitor implementation impact, and make necessary adjustments to optimize results.

Strategic Financial Growth and Performance Optimization

Develop and execute comprehensive strategic initiatives that drive sustainable growth through robust financial systems, revenue enhancement, and operational excellence across the portfolio while establishing long-term planning frameworks aligned with Roberts Communities’ business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the CEO, leadership team, and finance department to develop a comprehensive 3-5 year strategic plan with defined growth targets while establishing consistent financial reporting systems that provide real-time visibility into performance.
  • Analyze current revenue streams and identify opportunities for growth, diversification, and acquisition opportunities that align with the company’s strategic objectives and market conditions.
  • Develop and execute property-specific improvement plans across six struggling properties, partnering with the VP of RV Operations to identify cost reduction opportunities and revenue enhancement initiatives without compromising quality standards.
  • Establish weekly performance tracking systems and implement scalable business strategies, including talent acquisition, technology integration, and process optimization, to enable proactive interventions and sustainable growth.
  • Create comprehensive action plans for each property that enhance revenue and optimize operational costs while regularly reviewing and adjusting strategic initiatives based on performance data and emerging market opportunities.

Performance Measurement and Cultural Excellence

Build scalable organizational structures while implementing effective change management processes, robust performance measurement systems, and fostering a culture of transparency, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making that aligns all departments with unified business outcomes.

  • Assess the current organizational structure and design a scalable framework that aligns with the company’s growth objectives while establishing clear, measurable key performance indicators (KPIs) for each department and the overall business.
  • Set clear role expectations for regional and area leaders, hold legacy team members accountable regardless of previous protection, and ensure consistent performance standards through comprehensive data collection and analysis systems.
  • Implement effective communication strategies that facilitate seamless information flow between departments and hierarchical levels while developing dashboards and reporting tools to provide real-time insights into business performance.
  • Establish regular feedback mechanisms to ensure employee voices are heard and considered in decision-making, creating a culture of transparency and continuous improvement through data-driven processes.
  • Align departmental goals and compensation structures with overall company growth objectives while fostering a data-driven culture by training and empowering team members to utilize performance data in their decision-making processes.
